Congo is a developing country that finds its primary economic activities in forestry, petroleum production, and agriculture. Most of the urban population is concentrated in the south while the north is more rural with dense forests. Civil War and political instability have lead to a lot of violence in the country which further inhibits urbanization by making the government spend more on military rather than services that could help the public such as public transportation or education for example. With such limitations the lifestyle in Congo is generally poor. Discrimination against the pygmies, known as Teke, Aka, or forest dwellers, is widespread. They are turned away from hospitals, receive lower pay, and are not represented in the government. Because of communism and local social customs, few people have accumulated personal wealth. General indicators of prosperity are education, large houses, and money. Since Congo has implemented a communist form of government there is no real incentive for workers to excel in their careers making it difficult for the increase of urbanization.
